Summary

Blaspheming or incanting the Devil was a serious offence.  At this time any one accused of improprieties such as blaspheming, immoral behaviour etc had to appear at the church services and stand at the front of the church for a number of weeks, to be disciplined and to apologise for the misdemeanour.
