Mary Wetherilt married Alfred Burgar a few months after the Census.  At the time she had a baby, George, with her.  It is thought that George was not the child of Alfred.  Grand-daughters of Mary said that there was a special relationship between Mary and her son George.  Sometime in the early 1900s Mary and George went to Kent to try to claim an inheritance, thought to be on the death of his blood father.  Apparently, ‘they were sent away with a flea in their ears’.
