Smith J = journeyman smith.

It is thought that Samuel Rowe in this 1841 census has been entered twice. The Samuel in the first Census is Samuel James Rowe who was baptised as the son of James and Harriette Rowe.

It would seem that his parents registered him as being with them, despite the fact that he had married 4 months earlier and was living in London. It is possible that he was visiting his parents on the night of the Census, and is therefore legitimately entered. If this is so then his wife in London entered him on the basis that it was his official abode.
