Edwin Burgar was the only surviving son of Walter Burgar and Mary Kent.  After his father deserted the family his mother eventually remarried Andrew Millar in 1840 in Derby.  Edwin is living with his step-father and step-sisters.  Edwin, later went on to be the founder of the Sheffield Burgar family.

Edwin Burgar married  Emma Fearn in 1849 but she died soon after this Census.  It is likely that her sister-in-law and nephew are staying with them at the time of the Census.

In this Census the family surname is entered as Burgin, not Burgar. Edwin was married to Emma Fearn in Derby in the 1851 Census.  After she died in 1851 he seems to have moved to Sheffield, where he settled down with Harriet Blanksby and had quite a large family.  Edwin has changed from being a master tailor in 1851 to a lead pipe maker in 1861.  Perhaps it was more profitable.  He is also listed as a tobacconist in trade directories from 1859 to 1871.  Perhaps he combined both jobs, with Harriet running the shop while he was at work making lead pipes.  It is possible that his first son was named after his step-father, Andrew Millar.

Edwin Burgar died in 1871, just prior to the Census.  Harriet was now a widow.  Her age seems to be incorrect; she is really only about 35.  Edwin would have died soon after his daughter Emma was born (late 1870).  This seemed to set the family into a period of rough times.
