Transcription of  Part 2 of the Bruce Muniments Documents of 1712 -1717. 4

These accounts show that 4 Burgar families were living in Hillwell, Dunrossness, or immediate the area, at this time.

They were John, Laurence, Robert and the son of Robert (thought to be John).

See actual photocopy of Part 2 of Accounts

You will see that the accounts are difficult to follow, since the items seem to have been entered over a number of years.  For example, some tenants are paying in 1713 but others are paying as late as 1717.

The summaries below are incomplete, because of the difficulty of reading the original photocopies.  At some stage it is hoped to obtain the original documents for more detailed analysis.

Robert is paying money on his son's account.  We believe that this son is John Burgar, who appears in the Gifford Rentals a few years later  It is likely that his son would be in his early 20s, which would infer that Robert was also married around 1690. It is further assumed that he was born at about the same time as Laurence (say about 1665)

Laurence Burgar

Laurence Burgar is not named on this page of the accounts. However, the entry above Robert  has no name attached to it, and since Laurence was present in The Gifford Rentals of 1717, it is thought that this non-named section may refer to Laurence Burgar.
